Sorry for being late :-D

There's no yum in Debian. There's something even better. apt-get on the command line and synaptic for GUI. to install packages do

anirudh@debian-indraprastha:~$ apt-cache search nasm
nasm-mode - NASM mode for XEmacs
nasm - General-purpose x86 assembler
anirudh@debian-indraprastha:~$ apt-get install nasm
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
nasm is already the newest version.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 11 not upgraded.

Use apt-cache search to search for packages. Use apt-get to install packages. It will do all the dependency checking itself. Synaptic is a GUI front-end for apt-get.

There shouldn't be any problem mounting NTFS on Debian. I've heard that NTFS can be mounted as read-only and not with write. Perhaps write is possible in the the newer Debian Etch( not tried it yet :-D )
